Brunello 2010 Releases

The hillsides around the southern Tuscan town of Montalcino are among Italy’s more hallowed slopes, where the larger-berried Sangiovese Grosso gives rise to wines of great majesty, power and ageing ability; wines that fully justified Brunello di Montalcino’s elevation among the first wave of wines to be awarded Italy’s top appellation status, DOCG. 2010 has been unanimously acclaimed as a great vintage.

We have worked for a long time as exclusive UK importers of highly-rated Brunello producers Fuligni and Collemattoni, both of whom make wines true to the style of traditional Brunello, with an eye to modernity, but without the excessive use of new oak which has momentarily led to a change in style and character of many of the wines in the region. Collemattoni's wine is always a little more forward, because of their location (to the south of Montalcino in Sant’Angelo in Colli) and style of winemaking, while Fuligni's requires more time because of the tighter and finer style. The Fuligni vineyards are in the heart of the best classic sites in Montalcino ‘proper’, north facing slopes below the town itself which are a little cooler and allow a longer, slower maturation

“Amazing length and bite” 17.5/20 Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com
2010 Brunello di Montalcino Collemattoni - “a generous, decadent Brunello” 92/100 James Suckling
