2006 LARMANDIER-BERNIER Vieilles Vignes de Cramant Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut Grand Cru

Pierre Larmandier is well placed with his Grand Cru vineyard in Cramant, planted in 1960 and 1932 . This a minimal 'dosage', and is an 'Extra Brut' (less than 3g residual sugar), but the creamy texture, developed fruit, and subtle hint of oak gives a certain richness to this very delicious wine.

A fabulous vintage from Pol Roger. Tight and restrained at the moment, but with lots of autolytic notes, this is almost perfectly seamless, with tremendous length. The flavours just grow and grow as you hold it in the mouth showing tremendous promise. Cellar this wine and drink it from 2014 and for a decade therafter.

One of the great vintages of Bollinger which is a joy to drink right now, but will cellar fabulously well for five years and more. Rather odd that Jancis finds notes of 'roast chicken', but then it does have plenty of stuffing!

A vintage that saw incredible heat, most champagnes from this vintage are already somewhat flabby and dull, and the fact that DP 03 is said by many to be the best wine of the vintage could be seen as faint praise. However, it is an intriguing wine and there is an awesome combination of power and finesse that is almost captivating, and most certainly with food. It will never be as... (more info)
