2013 ALTER EGO DE CHÂTEAU PALMER du Château Palmer Margaux
Release date: 17/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

"The 2013 Alter Ego de Palmer is a blend of 46% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Petit Verdot. It has a well-defined bouquet with quite vivacious, lush red and black fruit, hints of cassis and iodine permeating through. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity. This is a light Alter Ego, but quite tensile, though it is missing some persistency towards the finish." - Neal Martin 86-88

In Bond £395.00

2013 CHÂTEAU PALMER 3ème Cru Classé Margaux
Release date: 17/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 6

"A blend of 49% Merlot and 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, the Palmer 2013 certainly has more fruit intensity on the nose compared to the Alter Ego. A little more opulent, there is a sense of plushness typical of Palmer with oodles of black cherries, cassis and blueberries - hints of dried violet. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. The acidity is nicely judged with a fine masculine, swarthy finish that shows more length than the Alter Ego. This is a good effort from the Palmer team - what you might call a "swish" Margaux in the making." - Neal Martin 90-92

In Bond £825.00

2013 CHÂTEAU GISCOURS 3ème Cru Classé Margaux
Release date: 15/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Oak juice. Vanillin essence and crème patissière with cassis. Could turn out OK if fruit lasts the course. The vanillin does stay well on the finish. - L&S 88

In Bond £275.00

2013 CHÂTEAU MONBRISON Cru Bourgeois Supérieur Margaux
Release date: 14/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

"The Monbrison has a light, pretty if simple bouquet with touches of fresh strawberry and vanilla. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. It feels a little pinched and there is a touch of astringency towards the finish, but at least it displays more fruit than its peers." - Neal Martin 83-85

In Bond £175.00

2013 CHÂTEAU RAUZAN SÉGLA 2ème Cru Classé Margaux Château Rauzan-Ségla
Release date: 11/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Moderately intense black-purple colour. Closed-in on the nose. Balanced palate with close weave texture. Even and balanced, but not expressive other than a sense of black mineral and a saline touch. Firm finish is long but tightens the screws, tannins closing in. - L&S 88+?

In Bond £365.00

2013 CHÂTEAU DU TERTRE 5ème Cru Classé Margaux
Release date: 10/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Dough sort of nose, 'blueberry muffin'. Ripe but not overripe, smooth and quite full and dense. Well done so far. A bit blocky and dense as ever here. 2016-2023 - L&S 88

In Bond £205.00

2013 CHÂTEAU FERRIÈRE 3ème Cru Classé Margaux
Release date: 10/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Less 'managed' in terms of texture. There's a gripping (grippy) reality to this. Good definition even if the fruit needs to find a bit more expression. - L&S 87

In Bond £195.00

2013 CHÂTEAU LA GURGUE Cru Bourgeois Supérieur Margaux
Release date: 10/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Sweet and smooth without much fruit savour. A bit rough and ready on the finish. - L&S 86

In Bond £120.00

2013 CHÂTEAU PRIEURÉ LICHINE 4ème Cru Classé Margaux Château Prieuré-Lichine
Release date: 8/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Tasted twice. On the first it seemed a bit sweet and simple until the tannins closed up half way though, but it also has some of the creamy fruit texture which seems to be a signature of these early samples. - L&S 88

In Bond £225.00

2013 CHÂTEAU BRANE-CANTENAC 2ème Cru Classé Margaux
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Good colour, but not nearly as sustained or purple as the Boyd- and -Brown. Smoothly and delicately supple on palate, it has energy in the fine grain, and even spice. Not a heavyweight, but a nicely lively wine. 2018-2024 - L&S 91

In Bond £tba

2013 CHÂTEAU CANTENAC-BROWN Cru Classé Margaux Château Cantenac Brown
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Very purple colour. Oaky, structured, tannic without any definition or expression other than very basic blocks for now. Solid but not loveable. - L&S 86

In Bond £tba

2013 CHÂTEAU D'ISSAN 3ème Cru Classé Margaux
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Softly voluminous creamy texture. A different kind of expression which is drier and possible more sophisticated. Really pretty good - it feels as though it is going somewhere - L&S 90

In Bond £tba

2013 CHÂTEAU LASCOMBES 2ème Cru Classé Margaux
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Inky deep black colour. This has little in the way of relief in the flavours; all dense and in one piece, the tannins give thickness, but it is no fun at all. 2020-2025? - L&S 84

In Bond £tba

2013 CHÂTEAU MALESCOT SAINT EXUPÉRY 3ème Cru Classé Margaux
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

"A blend 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot, the Malescot St. Exupery has a perfumed bouquet with ripe floral cranberry and redcurrant fruit that is nicely defined, the Cabernet lending a pleasant cedar-infused aroma. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, well judged acidity and a light but focused finish that is at least fresh and precise. This is a well-crafted Margaux for the vintage and should drink well over the next 6-8 years." - Neal Martin 88-90

2013 CHÂTEAU MARGAUX 1er Cru Classé
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

"The Château Margaux is a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot with no Merlot this year due to coulure and was picked between 30 September and 11 October. It represents 38% of the total harvest. It has a very masculine slightly earthy bouquet, a little more introverted than previous vintages, opening with time to reveal its trademark dried violet aromas. The palate is medium-bodied, silky smooth on the entry. There is not a huge weight in the mouth but it glides or rather flows nicely. It is a seductive Margaux, not a long-term wine for the estate but a success considering the vintage." - Neal Martin 91-93

2013 CHÂTEAU MARQUIS DE TERME 4ème Cru Classé Margaux
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

"The Marquis de Terme 2013 is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot picked between 2 and 14 October at 27hl/ha. It has a very fruit-driven bouquet that is missing a little delineation compared to its peers, although there are pleasant, uncomplicated red cherry and strawberry fruit to enjoy. The palate is medium-bodied, rounded and supple with mushroom and earthy scents, but the finish is missing the structure and precision I was hoping for." - Neal Martin 86-88

2013 PAVILLON ROUGE du Château Margaux
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

"The Pavillon Rouge consists of just 21% of the harvest - the smallest proportion ever since much is not deselected into the third wine or sold off. It has a rather broody bouquet the demands some encouragement, but eventually reveals blackberry, cold stone and just a touch of violet. Indeed, the floral component comes through strongly with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with good acidity and tension. There is perhaps a little more coarseness compared to recent vintages on the entry, although the finish is cohesive and with a delicate touch of black pepper." - Neal Martin 89-91
