2013 CLOS HAUT PEYRAGUEY 1er Cru Classé Sauternes Château Lafaurie Peyraguey
Release date: 29/5/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Deepest colour other than the de Fargues, but somehow lacking character in all this sweetness (it is very sweet), and on the finish it is sort of drying, which is quite something to have extracted in a year as good as this. 89-90/100 L&S

In Bond £250.00

2013 CHÂTEAU RAYNE VIGNEAU 1er Cru Classé Sauternes
Release date: 22/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Intense. Quite oaky? Sleek again, pure, but not much character. A tiny bit boring? 91/100 L&S

In Bond £295.00

2013 CHÂTEAU COUTET 1er Cru Classé Barsac
Release date: 17/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

I was hoping for a dazzle from Coutet, but despite a slightly salty attack it's not enough to give it freshness, and it's missing a bit of delicacy. Good not great today. 91? L&S

In Bond £270.00

2013 CHÂTEAU CLIMENS 1er Cru Classé Barsac PRIMEUR FAVOURITES
Release date: 16/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Cropped at ten hectoliters per hectare, this represents the first certified organic Chateau Climens. As usual, I have to conjecture how the final blend will manifest itself, a task becoming easier now that I have tasted through individual lots for several years. Clearly, the first tries contain zesty citrus fruit with crisp acidity and strong botrytis character, the second tries lending the structure and the Barsac/Climens character. I noticed a "marine" influence on the final tries picked on October 21 and 23, although here there is a slight attenuation. Putting all this together, I foresee an assured, perhaps slightly lighter but tensile Climens, with the more heavily botrytized fruit delivered toward the end. Quality is certainly on par with a very good vintage, the most impressive lots destined to form major components of the final blend. This ought to be a classic Climens. 94-96/100 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, www.eRobertParker.com (May 2014)

2013 CHÂTEAU SIGALAS RABAUD 1er Cru Classé Sauternes
Release date: 16/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Sumptuous the fruit on the nose is ripe the palate packed with rich apricot and peach backed by caramelized orange peel. The mid palate has a balancing freshness more of a tangerine character but the finish is deep rich fruited lush. 2020-35. 91-95 Derek Smedley MW, www.dereksmedleymw.co.uk

In Bond £309.00

2013 CHÂTEAU DOISY DAËNE 2ème Cru Classé Barsac PRIMEUR FAVOURITES
Release date: 15/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Very delicate mix of Sauvignon 'smoke' and pure lemon cream. Very fresh and crystalline. Lovely purity. Superb. Creamy, mildly caramel and honey finish. 93/100 L&S

2013 L'EXTRAVAGANT DE CHÂTEAU DOISY DAËNE 2ème Cru Classé Barsac
Release date: 15/4/2014
Half-bottles, wood case of 1

This is a laser already, with terrific clarity and focus to the pineapple, honeysuckle, persimmon, white peach and Jonagold apple aromas and flavors. The finish is long and pristine. 95–98 James Molesworth, The Wine Spectator

In Bond £115.00

2013 CHÂTEAU DOISY VÉDRINES 2ème Cru Classé Barsac PRIMEUR FAVOURITES
Release date: 14/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Foxy! Curves and sexy supple volupté. A Jessica Rabbit of a wine, vampish strutting richness and bouncy depth. Succulent with a strange saline length, it seems to be on springs. Huge fun. 93-94/100 L&S

In Bond £225.00

2013 CHÂTEAU GUIRAUD 1er Cru Classé Sauternes
Release date: 11/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Bright and firm, then sugary and lacking a bit of acid? A different style to eg Rieussec, but this also fails quite to take flight. 90/100 L&S

In Bond £310.00

2013 CHÂTEAU LA TOUR BLANCHE 1er Cru Classé Sauternes
Release date: 9/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Although not that deep, there is an orangey tint to the colour - 'old gold'. Very rich and sweet, not as clean and fresh as the best, this goes heavy and dense. 88-89/100 L&S

In Bond £335.00

2013 CHÂTEAU SUDUIRAUT 1er Cru Classé Sauternes
Release date: 7/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Rich and sleek, waxy, suave, full-bodied, a grand pommaded Lord in an immacualte dinner jacket. Du grand luxe! All as rich as can be but it holds it all together with immaculate style. When we taste this at Pichon, Christian says characterises 2013 as being, with 2003, 2005 and 2009, in the line of the 'fatties' - he thinks 2009 the fattest of all. He likened them to roly-poly babies with all their puppy-fat around their wrists and ankles. 93/100 L&S

In Bond £465.00

2013 CHÂTEAU LAFAURIE PEYRAGUEY 1er Cru Classé Sauternes
Release date: 4/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Quite a deep yellow-gold, pure, quite oaky, but seems to lack freshness, precision and character. A bit of a lumpen heavyweight. 90-91? L&S

In Bond £390.00

2013 CHÂTEAU NAIRAC 2ème Cru Classé Barsac
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Nairac seemed still to be fermenting, with a tiny prickle on the tongue. Rich and weighty but retaining a bright lemon freshness and purity. Supple palate, very rich indeed. 91-92/100 L&S

2013 CHÂTEAU DE FARGUES 1er Cru Classé Sauternes Château de Fargues
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Deep colour, a bright vibrant gold. Rich and broad, absolutely edible complete richness, ripe and full of banana, citrus and exotic fruit, and spice too. Not as sweet as the sweetest in the room, but pretty fab. 92-93/100 L&S

In Bond £tba

2013 CHÂTEAU YQUEM 1er Cru Classé Sauternes
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

(70 Semillon, 30 Sauvignon Blanc) 150gm/L sugar. Cool weather followed by hot weather and then muggy weather = perfect botrytis. Yquem has the benefit of maturing on the vine fairly early so they managed to get the grapes harvested in between each downpour and before the rain set in for good. This is a very typical botrytised style of Yquem but there is also very strident acidity on board thanks to the high acid and percentage of Sauvignon of it has incredible lime juice freshness and lift. While not as classic as ’09, ’10 or ’11 this is still a lovely wine with a very long future ahead of it. They declassified 60% of the harvest and only made 80000 bottles. This is a very good, but not exceptional Yquem with green pineapple, wild flower and barely sugar notes all infused into a lime chassis. This is certainly one of the wines of the vintage. 18.5+ Matthew Jukes
