2013 CHÂTEAU HAUT BRION 1er Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan
Release date: 24/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Rich. Much weightier and with more depth than the Mission. Not truly profound, but the sort of wine nevertheless which seems to have more to give, depths to plumb. Is this the first wine this year with layers and a sense of three dimensions? Finishes very black fruit and sloes. Still pretty austere. - L&S 92

In Bond £2470.00

2013 CHÂTEAU LA MISSION HAUT BRION Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan
Release date: 24/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Dry, ripe dark fruit, good weight, just a ghost of sweetness, but mostly quite dry and serious. A structured wine. One can see this making an '04 styled wine, good flavour depth and structural austerity. Raspberry top-notes. - L&S 91+

In Bond £1320.00

2013 LA CHAPELLE DE LA MISSION Pessac-Léognan
Release date: 24/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Darker, more oak-influenced aromas on the nose, quite tangy freshness leading to a fairly astringent finish as the acidity kicks in. - L&S 87

In Bond £330.00

2013 LE CLARENCE DE HAUT BRION Pessac-Léognan Château Haut Brion
Release date: 24/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Somehow a bit of a plain Jane; good volume, not much aromatic distinction. Red and black fruit on the palate, all 'just' ripe. Feels like it will be 'fine' but it is not clear where the interest is going to come from. - L&S 87

In Bond £550.00

2013 CHÂTEAU GRAND MAYNE Grand Cru Classé Saint Emilion
Release date: 24/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

"The Grand Mayne is a blend of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a sweet vanillary bouquet with candied orange peel interlacing the red cherry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins that bolster this Saint Emilion, lending it a fine masculine finish with vibrant black fruit that linger in the mouth. Good potential." - Neal Martin 90-92

In Bond £225.00

2013 CHÂTEAU QUINTUS Grand Cru Saint Emilion
Release date: 24/4/2014
75cl bottles, case of 12
In Bond £660.00

2013 LE DRAGON DE QUINTUS Grand Cru Saint Emilion
Release date: 24/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Not a massive wine, but bright and harmonious, edged with fresh raspberry and a little comforting depth. Acidity brightens the finish. Pretty enough. - L&S 87

In Bond £170.00

2013 LA CLARTÉ DE HAUT BRION Graves
Release date: 24/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Definite acidulous edge which feels of cold metal, but the mid-palate has some good spice. May always be pretty 'lively'. - L&S 89

In Bond £660.00

2013 CHÂTEAU HAUT BRION Blanc Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan
Release date: 24/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 6

A high (66%) proportion of Sauvignon. Very ripe with a touch of honeyed sweetness. Spicy oak and spicy fruit, with a driving core of lemony acidity, it remains very compact and linear on the acidity. - L&S 93

In Bond £3300.00

2013 CHÂTEAU LA MISSION HAUT BRION BLANC Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan
Release date: 24/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 6

Very linear and forceful with eye-watering intensity and acidity backing up a spicy middle. Very concentrated and compact with tight lemon, it seemed more closed and embryonic to me than others seem to have found it. - L&S 91+?

In Bond £2650.00

2013 CHÂTEAU MALARTIC LAGRAVIÈRE Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan
Release date: 23/4/2014
75cl bottles, case of 12

"Jammy fruit, pencil shavings and a very light spicing. Very fine tannins dominate the finish. Brief finish. (RH) Drink 2017-2023." - Richard Hemming 15.5

In Bond £240.00

2013 CHÂTEAU MARQUIS DE TERME 4ème Cru Classé Margaux
Release date: 23/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

"The Marquis de Terme 2013 is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot picked between 2 and 14 October at 27hl/ha. It has a very fruit-driven bouquet that is missing a little delineation compared to its peers, although there are pleasant, uncomplicated red cherry and strawberry fruit to enjoy. The palate is medium-bodied, rounded and supple with mushroom and earthy scents, but the finish is missing the structure and precision I was hoping for." - Neal Martin 86-88

In Bond £235.00

2013 CHÂTEAU GRAND PUY LACOSTE 5ème Cru Classé Pauillac
Release date: 23/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Again (like Haut Batailley) quite a sweet oak overlay, the fruit is more discreet, and the whole more structured and tannic. Dry and quite serious underneath, it has a sweet, lightly spicy edge, good refreshing balance and is generous too. Good Cabernet fruit and spice, and good flow too. - L&S 91

In Bond £340.00

2013 CHÂTEAU HAUT BATAILLEY 5ème Cru Classé Pauillac
Release date: 23/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Very sweet fat supple fruit. An oaky sweet overlay, but the fruit holds this really well. Round and almost opulent. Silky supple berry fruit with a warm and generous heart. Tightens on the finish, it may need just a little time. 2019-2026 - L&S 90

In Bond £235.00

2013 LACOSTE BORIE du Château Grand Puy Lacoste Pauillac
Release date: 23/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. Pretty. More weight and more Cabernet-style than Lalande Borie, for example. Not big, but a broad and very Pauillac Cabernet and excellent at this level. - L&S 87+

In Bond £155.00

2013 CHÂTEAU LAFON-ROCHET 4ème Cru Classé Saint Estèphe
Release date: 23/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

First nose is mostly oak. Good fresh creamy texture; very silky, but although the tannins build and the structure seems to be here, the fruit is reticent. A bit monolithic and quite tight on the finish. - L&S 87 - 88

In Bond £235.00

2013 CHÂTEAU CANON LA GAFFELIÈRE Grand Cru Classé Saint Emilion
Release date: 23/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Very blue-edged colour. More class here. A bit of spice and lift, but with it a more austere character and a twist of dryness on the finish. Mineral freshness and flow, the terroir coming though. Could turn into a mini aristo; - a baronet of a wine, but will probably always be a bit starchy and structured. - L&S 90

In Bond £410.00

2013 CHÂTEAU LA MONDOTTE Saint Emilion Château Canon La Gaffelière
Release date: 23/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Not a bad effort but not the class of Canon la Gaffelière. 'Modern' style with more weight, dense even if in a cool way, the tannins steadily build and the woood seems drying. It will be find it its thick way, but lacks lift. - L&S 88

In Bond £1090.00

2013 CLOS DE L'ORATOIRE Grand Cru Classé Saint Emilion
Release date: 23/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

From the one tasting this seems to be a rare miss for Clos de l'O. In 'prise de bois', so may recover, but tastes gripped, of charcoal and caramel, a touch of sweetness overwhelmed by bitter dryness. - L&S 85

In Bond £215.00

2013 CLOS FOURTET 1er Grand Cru Classé Saint Emilion
Release date: 23/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Quite lifted, scented fruit on the nose and palate. It's not a heavyweight, but they have not overcooked it. Pretty definition slowly tightens up but the fruit stays well. A success. - L&S 91+

In Bond £480.00

2013 CHÂTEAU BRANE-CANTENAC 2ème Cru Classé Margaux
Release date: 22/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Good colour, but not nearly as sustained or purple as the Boyd- and -Brown. Smoothly and delicately supple on palate, it has energy in the fine grain, and even spice. Not a heavyweight, but a nicely lively wine. 2018-2024 - L&S 91

In Bond £295.00

2013 CHÂTEAU D'ISSAN 3ème Cru Classé Margaux
Release date: 22/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Softly voluminous creamy texture. A different kind of expression which is drier and possible more sophisticated. Really pretty good - it feels as though it is going somewhere - L&S 90

In Bond £290.00

2013 CHÂTEAU MARGAUX 1er Cru Classé
Release date: 22/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

"The Château Margaux is a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot with no Merlot this year due to coulure and was picked between 30 September and 11 October. It represents 38% of the total harvest. It has a very masculine slightly earthy bouquet, a little more introverted than previous vintages, opening with time to reveal its trademark dried violet aromas. The palate is medium-bodied, silky smooth on the entry. There is not a huge weight in the mouth but it glides or rather flows nicely. It is a seductive Margaux, not a long-term wine for the estate but a success considering the vintage." - Neal Martin 91-93

In Bond £2470.00

2013 PAVILLON ROUGE du Château Margaux Château Margaux
Release date: 22/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

"The Pavillon Rouge consists of just 21% of the harvest - the smallest proportion ever since much is not deselected into the third wine or sold off. It has a rather broody bouquet the demands some encouragement, but eventually reveals blackberry, cold stone and just a touch of violet. Indeed, the floral component comes through strongly with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with good acidity and tension. There is perhaps a little more coarseness compared to recent vintages on the entry, although the finish is cohesive and with a delicate touch of black pepper." - Neal Martin 89-91

In Bond £795.00

2013 CHÂTEAU PEDESCLAUX 5ème Cru Classé Pauillac
Release date: 22/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

"The Pédesclaux has quite an open bouquet that feels a little forced and one-dimensional: ripe kirsch and strawberry fruit but it is missing some delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe soft tannins, gentle grip but just a little dryness towards the finish. Trying too hard? It might calm down and find a modicum of decorum by the time of bottling. " - Neal Martin 86-88

In Bond £200.00

2013 CHÂTEAU MEYNEY Cru Bourgeois Supérieur Saint Estèphe PRIMEUR FAVOURITES
Release date: 22/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Brightly-scented and well-formed defined fruit purity. Not heavy but well done. Energy and richly oaky classicism. Good direction and flow, crunchy texture. If the acidity shines a touch it is only to lift the fruit even more. Really nice line and length. Bravo! Top stuff for the vintage. 2016-2024 - L&S 89 - 90

In Bond £185.00

2013 CHÂTEAU PHÉLAN SÉGUR Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel Saint Estèphe
Release date: 22/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

"I had three querulous encounters with samples from Phelan-Segur. They all exhibited pinched aromatics that never really got off the ground. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, quite dry tannins and a hard finish that feels rather charmless. Perhaps I was unlucky with my samples - I will seek to re-taste this after bottling because it does often improve. Fingers crossed!" - Neal Martin 83-85

In Bond £230.00

2013 CHÂTEAU CORBIN Grand Cru Classé Saint Emilion
Release date: 22/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

Supple, honest. Simple rounded cassis fruit with a touch of sweetness, very easy to like. 2015-2020 - L&S 87

In Bond £185.00

2013 CHÂTEAU TROPLONG MONDOT Grand Cru Classé Saint Emilion
Release date: 22/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 12

The 2013 primeur campaign has been overshadowed by the death, at only 57, of Troplong's 'chatelaine', Christine Valette-Pariente who did so much to push this property to the extraordinary heights since she took over in 1981. This, sadly, is not one of the more memorable ones. It has the trademark deep, dark colour and density, but it is very, very dry, and showing oak to the fore. It is arguable that the fruit does stay to the end, but at the moment it is hard to imagine this giving much pleasure. 2019-2026 - L&S 87-88

In Bond £570.00

2013 PAVILLON BLANC du Château Margaux
Release date: 22/4/2014
75cl bottles, wood case of 6

"The Pavillon Blanc was picked from 19 to 27 September, which Paul Pontallier mentioned was before the botrytis hit. The blend has not physically been made although the sample is representative of the final blend. They key to its success is that being 100% Sauvignon Blanc, this grape variety is less prone to rot. It has a delicate bouquet with gooseberry and grapefruit scents, a hint of gravel in the background. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity. It is perhaps not the most complex Pavillon Blanc I have tasted, although it has great persistency in the mouth." - Neal Martin 91-93

In Bond £540.00
