2004 IL BOSCO SYRAH Tenimenti Luigi d'Alessandro
| Grapes: Syrah | Origin: Italy, Tuscany |
Lea & Sandeman review
Deep in colour, spice and pepper on the nose, with just a hint of new oak, the palate is richly textured with silky tannins and a freshness and minerality that drives the finish. Already approachable, but like all of their great earlier vintages, will age a decade and more.Other reviews and comments
Complex yet refined aromas of blackberry, mineral and flowers follow through to a full-bodied palate, with silky tannins and a long, caressing finish. Peppery and fruity. Delicious. Best after 2009. 3,000 cases made

The 2004 Cortona Syrah Il Bosco offers wonderful aromas of spices and sweet toasted oak that give way to layers of small red fruit, earthiness and mint flavors. It shows outstanding depth in a linear, pure style with a vibrant, generous personality, plenty of concentration and fine tannins to round out the finish. It is a terrific effort from D'Alessandro. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020.

Deep ruby. Quite a bit of development (and ripeness) on the nose. Smells more of Toledo than Tain (l'Hermitage). But lovely balance and vivacity. The same sort of weight and balance as a fairly classical Pomerol but with Syrah tobacco leaves dryness on the finish. Nice wine!Excellent balance. 14.5%

Tenimenti Luigi d'Alessandro
Massimo d'Alessandro is passionate about the Rhone and Syrah in particular. Having long since identified the 'terroir' and micro-climate of his Cortona vineyards as being almost identical to that of the Northern Rhone, he imported the best Viognier and Syrah clones, densely planted in the early 1990s, and set about making the best wines of the region. His Syrah is now rated world-class, particularly in vintages such as 2001 and 2004.
