2009 LOU PLANAL Domaine de la Bouysse
IGP Aude Languedoc-Roussillon France
A really good supper in the kitchen wine, roundly fruity and with good, mildly rustic Rhoney depth, made entirely from Marselan, a newish grape which is a cross between Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache.

2011 DUROU 'EXCEPTION' MALBEC Fabrice Durou
Vin de France France
From an estate in the Cahors region but sold as 'Vin de France'. Simple but perfect in its way, very black and glossy and fresh and full. The nose is generous, the palate ample and soft with just enough of a kicker of substance to make it juicy with blackberry and blackcurrant, and still easy to have another glass.

2009 PIED DE NEZ Cellier de Marjorine
IGP Aude Languedoc-Roussillon France
Supple characterful medium-bodied red from this young Corbières producer. A well-defined lightly smokey ripe blackberry fruit with tannins that are present but ripe and satisfying rather than painfully grippy, making for a great weekday supper or bistro wine. More serious than the jokey label implies, but to be enjoyed rather than worshipped.

2010 MALBEC CEDRUS Pascal Verhaeghe
IGP Comte Tolosan South West France
A fabulous lighter rendition of Malbec from the south west of France which gives the same from Argentina a run for its money.

2009 SYRAH-GRENACHE Champs du Coq Domaine de la Croix Belle
IGP Côtes de Thongue Languedoc-Roussillon France
The Boyers have got the balance of this wine spot on - just the right mix of juicy, bramble and graphite fruit with a good crunch and structure, with tannins that are soft and merely add volume.

2009 GENERATION 3 Corbières Cellier de Marjorine
Languedoc-Roussillon France
Christophe Lagarde is the third generation on this family property, and is rightly proud of this which arrived as an unsolicited sample after we had rejected his 2008 last year. Round and juicy, it is civilised for a Corbières (which can be rustic in the extreme), and had good complex dark fruit and garrigue notes and a lovely supple balance.

2010 LE CLOS Domaine Sainte Eugénie
IGP Hauterive Languedoc-Roussillon France
This light Rhone style wine benefits from a touch more ripe fruit and soft oak in this vintage. Not without the hints of bonfire smoke that made the previous vintage so appealing to us, and with an old world charm that makes this so drinkable with or without food.

2010 MANJO FANGO Les Terrasses d'Éole
IGP Méditerranée Provence France
'Manjo Fango', or 'mange boue', the wind that 'eats mud' and dries out the vineyards. Very immediate, very delicious, an easy wine that slips down and remains pure to the end. Made from Marselan (which is a new variety made by crossing Cabernet Sauvignon with Grenache), together with Grenache and Mourvedre.
