From an estate in the Cahors region but sold as 'Vin de France'. Simple but perfect in its way, very black and glossy and fresh and full. The nose is generous, the palate ample and soft with just enough of a kicker of substance to make it juicy with blackberry and blackcurrant, and still easy to have another glass.

A well-defined lightly smokey ripe blackberry fruit with tannins that are present but ripe and satisfying rather than painfully grippy, making for a great weekday supper or bistro wine. More serious than the jokey label implies, but to be enjoyed rather than worshipped.

Christophe Lagarde is the third generation on this family property, and is rightly proud of this which arrived as an unsolicited sample after we had rejected his 2008 last year. Round and juicy, it is civilised for a Corbières (which can be rustic in the extreme), and had good complex dark fruit and garrigue notes and a lovely supple balance.
