ENTORNO Lot 2010 Vino de Mesa Vina Eizaga
Rioja Spain
This de-classified Tempranillo Rioja (from 2010 vintage) is a fabulous little bargain. Unlike so many of the terribly young, purple 'maceration carbonique' wines of the region, this is a lovely, soft drinking wine with plenty of juice.

2010 GARNACHA Bodegas y Viñedos Monfil
Cariñena Aragón Spain
TASTING NOTE FROM THE WINE GANG MID-MONTH REPORT(18/5/12) Talk about bang for your buck, this has lashings of it. Sumptuous and juicy cherry fruit with a lovely lifted fragrance that screams of youth and vitality. It's equally as bright on the palate albeit with soft, spicy red fruit and a welcome touch of paprika and smokiness alongside easy-going tannins. What a scrumptious pleasure to price ratio! 88/100, £7.50, Lea & Sandeman. (www.thewinegang.com)

2009 CASTILL0 DE ALMANSA Colección Bodegas Piqueras
Almansa Spain
95% Garnacha Tinterera (one of the very few red grapes that actually has a red flesh) and 5% Syrah. Deep in colour with a very intense nose of plums and cassis, this is full bodied with concentrated fruit flavours and great length.

2006 LAGUNA DE LA NAVA Old Vines Reserva Bodegas Navarro Lopez
Valdepeñas Spain
A fantastic Tempranillo from the Valdepenas region, with five years bottle age so that it is showing exceptionally well. Aged twelve months in a combination of French and American oak, the palate displays mature notes with soft berry fruits and vanillin sweetness, with enough fresh acidity to carry through for a really good finish.

2007 MARIUS ALMANSA Reserva Bodegas Piqueras
Almansa Spain
One of our best selling and longest standing wines, Marius is a blend of Tempranillo, Monastrell, Garnacha and Syrah, which is aged a year in wood, and 10 months in bottle (so it qualifies as a Reserva) and tastes more like Rioja than many of the modern 'sin-Crianza' wines from Rioja.

2008 REY DON GARCIA RIOJA Crianza Bodegas Ruconia
Rioja Spain
Rey Don Garcia shows the consistent high quality of this Bodega, producing a Crianza which is modern in its execution, yet with traditional values. Always very much a fruit led Rioja with crisp flavours and soft hints of oak which never dominate. It is a remarkably good wine for the price offering far greater value and quality than many of the more famous wines from the region.

2010 MENCIA Ribeiro Bodegas Docampo
Ribeiro Spain
Traditionally the indigenous Mencia grape produces wines which are light and fragrant, not unlike a Beaujolais or Pinot Noir, and best drunk in the region. This is a lovely example, beautifully made, wonderfully fresh and very, very drinkable with a touch more depth than previous vintages.

2010 MENCIA Verdes Matas Adega Pena das Donas
Ribeira Sacra Spain
Native Mencia from fifty year old vines, in a beautifully crafted fashion, with very precise fruit and fine structure (think best Gamay moving towards Pinot Noir). Lots of red berry fruit, soft tannins and a juicy finish making this very easy to drink. Aged four months in a combination of French and American oak to round off the wine without losing its typical fruitiness or imparting oak flavours.

2009 ACÚSTIC Vinyes Velles Nobles Bodegas Acústic
Montsant Spain
Made of Garnatxa (Garnacha) and Samso (Cariñena) from 35 to 65 year old vineyards planted in the hills of Montsant, this is one of the most authentic wines we have found from Spain. With an intensely rich deep colour, and concentrated sweet aromatic fruit, this is a wonderfully expressive wine that reflects both the harshness of the region - the vines having to work hard for survival in the dry, stony soil - as well as the quality and singularity...
