Different to the Domaine Joel Delaunay in that this is made by Thierry (son) using bought in fruit from other domaines in the area. A lighter expression of Sauvignon de Touraine, but with all the freshness, fruit and minerality one would look for.

Lionel Gosseaume has taken a lot of trouble to craft this fascinating Sauvignon from 'la Sologne Viticole' an area just east of Tours. Quite a deep colour, a fresh grassy Sauvignon nose, lots of volume and richness on the attack, which is achieved by harvesting some early for freshness, some later for the fuller fruit flavours, and then working the 'fine bourbes' (grape pulp sediment) and lees. Muscadet from a very particular granitic terroir with very thin soil, which makes for a crystalline minerality. Eric has documents proving vines have been planted here since at least 1694. Fresh and citrus, balanced with a certain chiselled volume and an elegant length.

A half and half blend of Meslier Saint François with Sauvignon. Meslier Saint François is an all but extinct grape variety which was known to make huge yields of high-acid wine (so much so that the wine was exported to Germany as the base-wine for Sekt), but by pruning hard enough to keep the yields down, Lionel has succeeded in making a fascinating wine with extra spicy tropical fruit notes.

Fié Gris (otherwise known as Sauvignon Gris) is an ancient Loire variety which had all but disappeared before young Eric Chevalier was asked to make a special Cuvée for the renowned Hotel Anne de Bretagne, and this is where we first tasted his wine. Eric tells us that the grapes look more like Gewürztraminer, larger than Sauvignon with a distinctive yellow bloom. This exceptional cuvee is a gastronomic wine and will develop well over a number of years in bottle.
