Macabeo, known as Viura in Rioja, is Spain's most prolific white grape, producing lightly aromatic wines with good acidity. This wine is from Spain's heartland, Castilla y Leon, and as a result of cold fermentation is very fresh and well balanced. This vintage has a lovely dollop of sweetness on the attack, followed by fresh fruit and a dry finish. Exceptional value.

'Almalarga' means large in spirit, and this Godello certainly has plenty of that. Made from 80 to 100 year old vines and given four months on the lees, this has a distinctive Chablis like personality. Fresh, precise and focussed fruit with masses of character and a lovely texture for such a simple variety. Lively, mineral and fresh, this is a wine for drinking both on its own and with food.

Dirk Niepoort's venture into Andalucia, or Jerez to be more precise, is a remarkabale and extraordinary Palomino fermented in sherry butts. As in sherry production, the wine is allowed to develop a 'flor' and then immediately racked. With many of the characteristics of a Fino sherry, such as a yeasty nose and salty tang, the wine has wonderful texture and incredible length. A curiosity at first perhaps, but develops into a wonderful taste sensation... (more info)

Bodega do Campo's premuim wine is a selection of Treixadura, Torrontes, Loureira and Lado from their best vineyard sites. Packed with mature white fruits and tropical notes, this is concentrated enough that we thought, mistakenly it seems, that it must have had some sort of oak treatment. In fact this is only fermented and kept in stainless steel. A brave effort and a great success.
