Domaine de la Mordorée
Started in 1986 by the Delorme brothers, Domaine de la Mordorée (woodcock) has become one of the top estates in the Rhône, with arguably the most consistent quality. Christophe Delorme's objective as a winemaker is to be unintrusive and maintain total respect for his terroir and the fruit it produces, striving to achieve a perfect balance between concentration, terroir and balance. The domaine consists of 55 Hectares, on 38 different parcels, providing a rich, wide range of soils and climates. Seeking to make the minimum long-term impact on nature, they practiced culture raisonnée'. Christophe's approach was so 'raisonnée' that he held back from being fully organic because he was worried about the long-term effect of putting too much copper (the the form of copper suphate, a permitted treatment in organic viticulture) onto his vineyards. Now due to the improvements on formulations, and work done in disease prevention, they can use copper sulphate with very low concentrations, these levels are not impacting the soils. The whole domaine has been certified organic since 2007.

Full bodied ripe fruit with a note of sweet spice, this will make a great accompaniment to barbequed and grilled food.

Christophe Delorme's Syrah and Grenache blend tops the charts among the village Liracs by some way. Rich and packed with fruit this has the telltale 2009 fine tannins and lush silky feel.

This wine is a white like Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc ought to taste, but so rarely does. A very Châteauneuf mixture of six grape varieties, Viognier, Grenache Blanc, Picpoul, Bourboulenc, Roussanne, Clairette, and Marsanne gives a sappy, spicy, really interesting and satisfying mid-weight mouthful.

An equal blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre from forty year old vines, aged in a combination of oak barrels, wooden tuns and stainless steel this is Christophe Delorme's super cuvée of Lirac which is vastly superior to any other in the appellation. Red/black in colour with a massive fruit structure and rich tannins, nevertheless beautifully balanced and with a great future.

A massive success in the vintage. Deeply concentrated with lovely acidity this is impressive but without being overpowering. Drink it now on the youthful berry fruit, or cellar for another five years.

The really remarkable thing about this wine is the way that the tannins are so fine-grained as to be sliding, supple and volume-giving rather than sand-papery. And yet their presence gives a tonic dryness to counter the depth and ripeness of the fruit. Subtle, not a word often associated with Chateauneuf from a top vintage. Gorgeous mouthfilling fruit that just needs to develop from its youthful purity, to expand to the complexity shown in the magificent... (more info)
