Valdespino
Valdespino sherries remain among the very best quality available, and Inocente is still the best Fino in the market. Subtle changes to some of the other wines appear to have been for the best. Tio Diego Amontillado is now a little softer in style making it even more appealing and Don Gonzalo has been re-released in the VS range of older Solera wines.

DELICIOSA MANZANILLA Valdespino
Sherry Spain
Light, pale, fresh, crisp, a delightful summer aperitif, and like the Inocente, should be tried with fish, which it accompanies much better than many of the classic matches (Chablis, Sancerre etc...).

INOCENTE Fino Valdespino
Sherry Spain
The best Fino on the market, single vineyard (Macharnudo district) and barrel-fermented, a bit fuller bodied than most. A perfect accompaniment to smoked fish (and almost any other fish dish) as well as being a delightful aperitif.

TIO DIEGO Dry Amontillado Valdespino
Sherry Spain
Very dry Amontillado, aged fifteen years with complexity and intense rich flavours on the dry finish. Among the Jerezanos this is the most popular of the Valdespino wines. Fabulous with 'jamon serrano'.

CONTRABANDISTA Amontillado Medium Dry Valdespino
Sherry Spain
Aged eight years under a natural layer of 'flor' yeast, and given a further eight years of 'oxidative' ageing prior to being blended with a small amount of Pedro Ximenez before bottling. This superior Amontillado is intense with notes of caramel and toffee, roasted hazelnuts and a touch of raisin sweetness. Darker and fuller than the Tio Diego through the addition of must and PX. Rich, full and textured with a bitter sweet finish.

PEDRO XIMENEZ El Candado Valdespino

PALO CORTADO Viejo Calle Ponche Valdespino
Sherry Spain
'Calle Ponche' is the name of one of Jerez's oldest streets, where Valdespino had one of their bodegas and the solera for this Palo Cortado Viejo was first created. The solera has been kept alive over the years by steadily refreshing the younger casks from a careful selection of barrels containing exceptional quality Inocente. Impossible to put an exact age of the wine, but estimated to be about twenty-five years and more, this solera is also used... (more info)

SOLERA 1842 Oloroso VOS Valdespino
Sherry Spain
Described as an "Oloroso Dulce" on the label, it is only just sweet enough to soften the old, dry and concentrated flavour.

DON GONZALO Dry Oloroso VOS Valdespino
Sherry Spain
Wonderful rich dry Oloroso, with tremendous warm round raisiny flavour and length. Recently top of the tasting of dry sherries in Wine magazine, where it is described as 'generous, alluring and rich... a wonderful, elegant, seductive wine (with) caramel, dried fruit and a satisfying savoury character to the wine'.
