CHÂTEAU SUDUIRAUT
1955 1er Cru Classé Sauternes
Grapes | Muscadelle, Sauv Blanc, Sémillon |
Origin | France, Bordeaux |
Village | Sauternes |
Classification | 1er Cru Classé |
In his book 'Vintage Wine' Michael Broadbent describes 1955 as 'a perfect growing season and well nigh perfect Sauternes. Still lovely.' In more detail he says of Suduiraut - '..old gold, notable botrytis and bottle age; perfect flavour and balance. Classic.' he adds: Probably still very good' - which we are happy to confirm after enjoying a bottle recently with Charles as part of a formidable line-up of wines over supper at his house. This wine is still in great condition; a beautiful colour and full of rich dark fruit, plenty of baking spice and incredible bounce still. Remarkable to think it is nearly 60 years old - intense, long and still so bright - a real treat - and a perfect gift to mark 60 years. L&S (Nov 2014)
