1965 Very Old Single Harvest Colheita

Origin Portugal, Port
District Tawny Port
Sub-district Colheita
ABV 19%

This is a 50 year old Colheita - a Tawny Port from a single vintage - these days it seems this style is often called 'Single Harvest' in case 'Colheita' causes confusion. Unlike Vintage Port this wine has been aged for many years in a cask, rather than a bottle, which gives it the lighter, tawny colour. It is also bottled so there is no need to decant when serving. From this single barrel just 2,000 bottles are available globally, so it really is a very limited release. Packed in a very smart beach-wood single case this fabulous drink would make the perfect present to help celebrate fiftieth birthdays or remarkable anniversaries. Pale green-tinged tawny, this immediately gives off penetrating aromas of dried fruit and polished wood, round on the palate with both richness and concentration, the dried fruit flavours lifted by acidity. Very long and altogether a treat. L&S (Jul 2015)

As part of a series of 50-year-old limited editions, Taylor's has launched a 1965 Single Harvest port. The rare, cask-aged Port is bottled in a classic, frosted bottle and presented in a wooden gift box. Described by Taylor's as "wonderfully poised and elegant", the mature Tawny has, according to its makers, "attractive walnut and marzipan nuttiness with notes of fine oak and discreet aromas of marmalade, black pepper and cinnamon". The house recommends crème brulée or wild strawberries as perfect pairings for the Port, which should be served slightly chilled. "A 50th anniversary is a cause for celebration, which is why we're releasing these rare wines from our cask-aged reserves," says Taylor's managing director Adrian Bridge. "The 1965 offers a unique opportunity to mark this occasion with a 50 year old wine that is still in perfect condition." The Drinks Business (Jul 2015)
