1999 POL ROGER Brut

Lea & Sandeman review
A lovely vintage from Pol Roger which is wonderfully expressive, and yet will continue to develop over the next four to five years into a very elegant and mature wine.Other reviews and comments
(60% pinot noir, 40% chardonnay from 18 grand and premier crus). The slightest hint of
sulfur detracts mildly from the otherwise very pretty nose of lemon rind, spice hints and a discreet floral note that complements
moderately complex flavors that possess good energy and vibrancy and I like the intensity as well as the notably dry finish that
is both crisp and clean. In sum, I like the personality and delivery but this wants for a bit more depth to rise to the next level.
In fairness, it may still get there as this remains youthful if no longer young. That said, for my taste, it has arrived at a state of
maturity where it could be drunk with pleasure now or aged for another 5 years or so.

The estate’s 1999 Brut Extra Cuvee de Reserve(60% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay) is rich and creamy-textured in its generous expression of honey, apricots and roasted nuts. With some time in the glass, notes of smo-kiness and minerals emerge, adding further complexity. This medium-bodied wine possesses nota-ble harmony and balance, with terrific length and a long, sweet finish. Simply put, this is gorgeous stuff.
