Analysis shows this Pavillon Rouge to have the highest level of tannin ever, but it is very fruity, and very elegant. More tannic than 1986, yet much less aggressive to taste. ‘a new benchmark of classicism - the best Pavillon Rouge ever’ suggests Paul Pontallier. Deep ruby colour, intense fruit nose, intense throughout, concentrated rather that massive, and very long. L&S (Mar 2005)

The 2000 Pavillon Rouge de Château Margaux is actually a vintage that I have never tasted before. For me, this is a little more mature than the 2001, with black plum, loam and pressed flower scents of pastille-like purity. Like the 2001, this has certainly held up well. The palate is medium-bodied, fuller and more muscular than the 2001, offering black currant and raspberry mixed with white pepper and cedar. Glorious aromas of freshly picked raspberries, with tiny hints of cream and minerals. Full-bodied, with superfine tannins and a long, long finish of berries and cherries.
