SMITH WOODHOUSE

2000

Origin Portugal, Port
District Vintage Port
ABV 20%

Although the nose is quite light it is very black fruit influenced. Blackcurrant, blackberry and richer sloe are there on the palate with black plum adding to the mid fleshiness. There is cherry towards the back giving the finish an appealing brightness. 2016-40 Rating: 92 Derek Smedley MW, www.dereksmedleymw.co.uk (Dec 2013)

Now we are talking. Wow. Aromas of liquorice, flowers and crushed blackberries. Full-bodied and medium sweet, with lovely smooth, fine tannins and a long, sweet finish. Greatest young Vintage Port of Smith Woodhouse I have ever tasted. Rating: 95 James Suckling, The Wine Spectator (Dec 2012)

Dark blackish purple. Rich, soft, black cherries. Very sweet and powerful and alcoholic, so much so that it is quite difficult to even discern the tannins but they are there… It is extremely young but is does have all the ingredients there. Rating: 18 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Dec 2012)

Smith Woodhouse

In 1784, Christopher Smith, a wine merchant and Lord Mayor of London, founded a small company shipping Port from offices based in Oporto. In 1835 after Smith's death, the Woodhouse brothers joined the firm and Smith Woodhouse was created. Since 1970, the company has been owned and run by the Symington Family. The main vineyard for Smith Woodhouse is Quinta Madalena based in the Rio Torto which is in the heart of the Douro region and widely renowned for its high quality ports.
