The firm structure dominates the fruit at this tasting. Lots of oak cannot hide a slightly crunchy core - but this will come round in the élevage - graphitey minerals and firm black fruit, concentratedly structured and long. Rating: 90 L&S (Apr 2005)

Deep red. Aromas of blueberry, plum, leather, tobacco and mocha. Sweet, plummy and pliant, with a creamy, fine-grained texture for the vintage. Very plush wine, richer than the 2006 and at least as long. Finishes with big but ripe tannins. Rating: 91 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (May 2007)

Purplish crimson. Creamy nose and lots of Cabernet influence. Some spice. Quite aromatic with lots of ripe fruit on the front palate. Bright fruit., Good energy. Lots of vibration. Interesting to taste a second wine which is made with such ambition (extremely rare in 2004 though also evident at Ch Margaux]. Some almond paste on the nose ? good round lovely hit on the palate.
