2004 VINO NOBILE DI MONTEPULCIANO Bossona Riserva Dei

2004 VINO NOBILE DI MONTEPULCIANO Bossona Riserva Dei

Grapes: Prugnolo Gentile  Origin: Italy, Tuscany
Lea & Sandeman review
Caterina Dei's Bossona vineyard, planted only with Prugnolo Gentile, is now fourteen years old and producing exceptional fruit with a real sense of 'terroir'. Maceration on the skins in steel vats takes place for twenty-eight days and this is followed by a period of twenty four months aging in Slovenian oak casks ('botte'). This vintage has produced a wine of immense power and structure with an incredibly fine balance that is so difficult to achieve in Montepulciano, let alone with Sangiovese. The purity of fruit, vibrant tannins and delicate oak combine to produce a wine that is incredibly exciting. Bravissima!

Other reviews and comments
The French-oak aged 2004 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva Bossona offers up super-ripe red cherries, flowers and sweet spices in a forward, supple style. The wilder elements of Prugnolo Gentile seem to have been tamed in this sleek, opulent Vino Nobile. The rich, deeply scented fruit carries through to the long, lingering finish. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019. 91/100 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
Offers plum and spicy vanilla on the nose and palate. Full-bodied, chewy and rich, with plenty of ripe tannins. Still needs time. Best after 2009. 1,670 cases made. 90/100 The Wine Spectator
Drink 2010-18 Prugnolo Gentile Excellent depth of very well balanced, intense fruit with a bit more structure and subtlety than the regular version. Very full and sweet and rich. Lots of delivery! Complex with lots of development ahead. 14% 18 Jancis Robinson MW OBE - www.JancisRobinson.com
Very very dark almost brownish tinge. A bit dusty at first. Again, generous, sweet dark fruit nose with well-integrated oak. Very good balance and lovely acidity turning up on the finish. Grainy bitter tannin, and would need a couple of years in the bottle. Not the most elegant, but certainly hedonistic and with the stuffing to age. 2014-2022 17+ Walter Speller, www.jancisrobinson.com
