60% Merlot, 48% Cabernet, 12% Cabernet Franc. The Merlot gives an extraordinary richness - deep, full and chocolatey, it is rather ‘out of the series’ of the flavour profile of Bahans, La Mission and Haut Brion itself, but no less good for that. Rating: 91 L&S (Apr 2005)

Deep red. Plum, mocha, smoke and a whiff of caramel on the nose. Lush, round and deep for the vintage: there's something almost Burgundian about this wine's silky flavors of cherry, raspberry, smoke and spices but the wine is still a bit youthfully unforthcoming. Finishes with fine, late-arriving tannins and lingering notes of dark raspberry, smoke, minerals and earth. A superb showing. Rating: 90 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (May 2007)
Deep colour with some brownish hints. Relatively opulent but not especially concentrated. A very mellow La Tour Haut Brion taking the vintage into account. Uncompromisingly dry on the finish but the tannins are very fine. Mild wine with no exaggerated characteristics. Delicate even. Pretty. Firm, with loads of currants and berries and a floral edge. Full-bodied, with fine, chewy tannins and a long, finish. 60 percent Merlot, with some Cabernet Franc. A pretty wine. 2,500 cases made. Rating: 89-91 James Suckling, The Wine Spectator (Apr 2005)
