2004 TERRICCIO Castello del Terriccio
2004 TERRICCIO Castello del Terriccio
| Grapes: Mourvedre Tannat Syrah Petit Verdot | Origin: Italy, Tuscany |
Lea & Sandeman review
A blend of Syrah, Petit Verdot, Tannat and Mourvèdre aged in French oak. Marked by balsamic, spice and violet aromas, with dense, blackberry, blackcurrant and chocolate flavours on the palate with a subtle mint note. The silky tannins and long finish make this incredibly long on the finish. Only the fourth vintage for this wine, but each has been awarded 'Tre Bicchiere'.Other reviews and comments
Drink 2010-16
Petit Verdot, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Tannat
Bright, deep crimson. Dense and pungent on the nose. Round and ripe. Very gentle tannin management and a flattering wine certainly. This must be the only blend of this sort made in the world, no? Very approachable. Manna from heaven for a restauranteur because of its precociousness. Very clean finish. Just a little sinewy on the finish. 14%

Intense aromas of meat and berry, with hints of toasted coffee. Full-bodied, layered and rich, with round tannins and a long finish. Very beautiful.

The Wine Spectator
The 2004 Castello del Terriccio opens with enticing suggestions of licorice, leather, scorched earth and roasted coffee beans that meld into a muscular, full-bodied palate imbued with dark fruit. The wine possesses notable density, richness and complexity along with tannins that are beautifully woven into its fabric. It is an important wine in this great Tuscan vintage, but patience is warranted. A blend of 50% Syrah, 25% Petit Verdot and 25% miscellaneous grapes, it spent 18 months in French oak. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2021.

Syrah & Petit Verdot, aged in oak for 18 months, deep yet limpid and bright ruby, rich exotic nose of hedgerow fruits with a touch of balsamic and the spice shop. Yet the palate is fine and focused with riipe elegant tannins. Because of the ripeness of the fruit, this will start drinking well in 2010 18/20
