2006 BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO Collemattoni
2006 BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO Collemattoni
| Grapes: Sangiovese | Origin: Italy, Tuscany |
Lea & Sandeman review
Rich and bold in style with ripe fruits, this is a fabulous effort from Collemattoni and speaks volumes of the Sant'Angelo vineyards from which it comes.Other reviews and comments
The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino is a big, bold wine imbued with wild cherries, earthiness, tar, smoke and grilled herbs. This shows more of the rustic side of Sangiovese in its hearty personality, but there is more than enough substance in the fruit to balance some of the wine’s edgier qualities. Licorice, new leather and French oak linger on a round, harmonious finish that compensates for some of the wine’s small imperfections. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024.

Wonderful inviting aromas of cherries, dried herbs and tar. Very dry, with mouthcoating tannins and intense, sweet fruit. Lovely balance, pure and delicious.

I love the aromas of strawberry pie and cream, with hints of dried berries. Full bodied, with velvety tannins and lots of ripe fruit. Long and beautiful. Succulent. Hard not to drink now, but will improve with age. Decadent. Made from organic grapes. $$

Open and evolved and flattering and sweet. So rich! But not tarty nor heavy. Lovely wine.
