2006 CHÂTEAU LES ORMES DE PEZ Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel Saint Estèphe

2006 CHÂTEAU LES ORMES DE PEZ Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel Saint Estèphe

Grapes: Origin: France, Bordeaux
Lea & Sandeman review
A real reaction of 'wow' to Ormes de Pez this year. It's punching well above its weight. Very rich colour and texture. Nose of ripe fruit, cassis and blueberry. A big wine, very fine tannins give the palate a real presence. Rich and succulent, well balanced on the finish between the deep ripe black cherry juice and the firm but not over-the-top tannins.   91/100

Other reviews and comments
(a blend of 58% cabernet sauvignon, 36% merlot and 6% cabernet franc) Full ruby. Pure, high-pitched aromas of cassis, black cherry and licorice. Juicy, bright and primary, with slightly elevated acids and a hint of greenness but good stuffing. The tannins are smooth and arrive late. Offers a nice combination of cabernet sauvignon structure and merlot flesh. Seems finer than the 2005.   85-88/100

Intense colour but not over-extracted on the palate, lots of fruit and more elegance than in recent vintages, modern yet classic, very good. 2011-20.   ****

Bright currant and berry character follows through to a medium body, with silky tannins and a medium finish.   85-88/100

Dark crimson with a slightly weak rim. Heady, gamey, not quite pure on the nose. Rather tired fruit - no directness, a bit heavy and lacking definition. More freshness, please - not a common complaint in 2006. 2012-18   15.5

A lot of sweet vanillary new oak on the opulent, quite showy nose. A touch of violets begins to develop in the glass, with a scent of brown sugar in the background. The palate is well balanced with good acidity, supple black toasty fruits and layers of new oak. Cedar, cassis and blackcurrants on the finish. A sturdy Saint Estèphe that should improve in barrel.   88-90/100
