Tasted blind at Southwold ’06 Bordeaux tasting. This exceeded my expectations by a considerable mile and stood out in this blind comparison. It has a very ripe, liquorice, blackcurrant, almost honeyed bouquet with a lot of unresolved new oak. It has an exotic allure. The palate is medium-bodied, fine tannins, black cherry, liquorices and bilberry with hints of dried apricot and a grippy finish. This needs a serious amount of cellaring to get the most form it. Excellent. Tasted January 2010.

Proprietor Alexandre Bonnie has produced brilliant white and red wines at this estate's NASA space age-looking winemaking facility. I remember these wines from the early days of The Wine Advocate, and they were undrinkable swill. That is certainly not the case today. This is classic Pessac-Leognan with leafy tobacco, smoky red and black currant, forest floor, cedar, and graphite notes. It is a medium-bodied wine of impeccable purity, texture, and balance. Enjoy it over the next 15 years. Drink 2009-2024
