2006 MONTETI Tenuta Monteti
|Grapes: Petit Verdot Alicante Bouschet Cabernet Franc Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot
||Origin: Italy, Tuscany
Lea & Sandeman review
Monteti is the estate's top wine and with its very high percentage of Pertit Verdot (50%), is something of a 'reverse' style Bordeaux, together with a good dollop of Cabernet Franc (30%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (20%). The oak treatment is judicious, in spite of being in two thirds new barrels, and does not come through on the palate. This has lovely deep fruit, with a rich texture lifted by the freshness of the Cabernet Franc. Long and persistant on the finish with very fine tannins. A class act.
Other reviews and comments
The 2006 Monteti sparkles on the palate with beautifully articulated dark fruit, rosemary, mint and French oak. This is a somewhat understated 2006 from the Tuscan coast that relies more on elegance than sheer power, and there is no shortage of finesse here. This continues to gain weight and density in the glass, though, and my impression is that it will develop into a rather muscular wine even if today it is somewhat closed in on itself. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2026.
