Weighty and waxy, real flavour and richness as well as sweetness, in fact not as sweet as some, but very full of flavour, quite a broad rich style. Rating: 91 L&S (Apr 2008)

The 2007 Doisy-Védrines has a well-defined, quite generous bouquet with dried honey, peach skin and overripe Clementines; there is ample botrytis here, though not quite as nuanced as Daëne. The palate is well balanced with marmalade and quince, moderate depth, fine acidity, but maybe it has lost a little complexity on the finish in recent years. Still, this is a decent Barsac that ought to give another 15-30 years' drinking pleasure. Tasted at the 2007 horizontal in Sauternes. Drinking range: 2022 - 2040 Rating: 91 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Oct 2022)

Bright, full yellow with gold highlights. Explosively fruity aromas of ripe pineapple and apricot, complicated by saline and clove nuances. Thick, chewy and powerful, with honey and spice flavors currently overshadowing fruit in the middle palate. Builds impressively toward the back, finishing fresh, spicy and long, with a lot of character and noteworthy finesse. Rating: 91-93 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Jul 2008)

This has a much more precocious nose than other 2007s: honey, apricot, peach, a touch of spice, mandarin and a soupcon of warm alcohol, in other words, quintessential Doisy-Vedrines. The palate is full-bodied, viscous on the entry and maintaining good balance, fine acidity cutting through the rich honey, quince and apricot fruit, with great definition and vitality towards the botrytis-rich finish. There is real pedigree here, and the 2007 surely represents their best wines since the triumvirate of 88, 89, and 90. This is a benchmark Doisy-Vedrines. Drink 2015-2045. Château Doisy Védrines

Barsac Deuxième cru 1855 As one might expect, there was originally one Doisy estate. Sometime in the earlier 19th Century, it was divided into three parts - two smaller parts were sold to the Dubroca brothers and Jean-Jacques Emmanuel Daëne becoming the rarely encountered Château Doisy-Dubroca and Château Doisy-Daëne respectively, whilst the larger proportion became Château Doisy-Védrines. In 1851, it was purchased by the Boireau family who's descendents the, Castéja family, own Doisy-Védrines to this day. Around 30ha of vineyard are planted with 85% Semillon and 15% Sauvignon Blanc. Fermentation is in stainless-steel before and 18 month aging period in oak, of which 70% is new. Doisy-Védrines is a richer rounder style than Doisy-Daëne. Interestingly, although entitled to the Barsac appellation, the wines are always labelled as Sauternes.
