Lightish, but really nicely made. Smooth raspberry and blackberry fruit. Juicy. Just enough grip to give it a bit of length without ever becoming aggressive. Rating: 89 L&S (Apr 2008)

This has a very ripe nose with black cherries and noticeable apricot and blood orange. Very lifted with good definition although not as complex as other Rol Valentins that I have tasted. Silky smooth on the entry, good acidity, succulent, very pure with black cherry, ripe oranges, cassis and plum. Great weight on the finish. Very fine. Château Rol Valentin
Château Rol Valentin is one of the relatively new 'Vins de garage' emerging in the Saint-Émilion reigon of Bordeaux. The wines are typically very deeply coloured, intensely flavoured, and generally only made in very small quantities - the estate comprises just 7.3 hectares. Purchased in 1994 by ex-footballer Eric Prisette, who employed well-known French vigneron Stéphane Derenoncourt as the wine consultant at the property, Château Rol Valentin was bought by Nicolas and Alexandra Robin in 2009. The grapes at Château Rol Valentin are fermented in wooden tanks and then aged in 100% new oak barrels.
