Richly textured, quite full, and very impressive for a 'Macon', but then that is not at all unusual in the hands of Guffens. L&S (Oct 2009)

Very different! Scented lemon grass and lemon meringue. Heady. Incredibly taut structure, shimmering with acidity. Yuzu lemon, lime blossom, wet stones and honey. Huge intensity and focus. So individual and alive. (TC) Tamlyn Currin - www.JancisRobinson.com (Jun 2010)
Light gold. Pungent aromas of pear skin, quince, toasty lees and minerals, with a strong floral quality adding complexity. Juicy, concentrated citrus and orchard fruit flavors stain the palate and are braced by a smoky mineral quality. Gains weight with air while maintaining verve and focus, finishing with very good mineral cut and lingering spiciness. Rating: 91 Josh Raynolds, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Aug 2009)
A mildly oxidative nose that is presently difficult to evaluate and my estimated range assumes that this will be cleaned up before bottling. The rich, full and impressively intense flavors provide excellent volume and much better than average length in the context of the typical wine from this appellation. Should be quite good and capable of a few years of cellar development. 2010+ Rating: 89-91 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Oct 2008)
Domaine Guffens-Heynen
The wines from the original domaine of Jean-Marie and Maine Guffens, where Jean-Marie developed the winemaking skills which are now used to the full at Verget. Maine has given up being a vigneronne to look after their adopted girls in the warmer climes of Château des Tourettes in the Lubéron. The domaine vines are still looked after in the same horticultural way by the caretaker, and the only real change in recent years has been the installation of a 'new' press (it is at least twenty years old), which Jean-Marie bought from a Champagne house - the domaine vines have always been pressed in an old-fashioned vertical press, and he saw no reason to change.
