2007 CHÂTEAU LÉOVILLE BARTON 2ème Cru Classé Saint Julien

2007 CHÂTEAU LÉOVILLE BARTON 2ème Cru Classé Saint Julien

Grapes: Origin: France, Bordeaux
Lea & Sandeman review
More closed on the nose than the Langoa, tighter and dryer, firmer style. Reasonable fruit but surprisingly firm. The fruit stays on the finish. Very classical, very Barton. At the Chateau it showed differently, crushed raspberry and blackberry, smooth texture but with grippy but non-violent tannins - the fruit more on the ascendant, and the tannins not so obvious.   91+(?)

Other reviews and comments
There's a suggestion of minerality and earthy terroir here, and lots of pencil-shaving and blackcurrant finesse. On the palate copious, sweet, rich chocolate-tinged fruit with silky but grippy tannins and fine balance.   94/100

Rich and ripe with soft black cherry fruit but not much real concentration on the mid palate. Very drying finish. Quite firm but sandpaper dominates. 2012-16   16.5

Lovely core of blackberry and currant, with smoky oak and chocolate. Full and velvety. Delicious already.   88-91/100

Intense black-red, restrained but well-expressed concentration of fruit, a little spice and more going on than most other wines, good depth, personality and precision of fruit, good future. Drink 2014-25.   **** 17.5

A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. This seems lighter on the nose than Langoa Barton, but it has greater delineation and lift with notes of blackberry, cedar, wild hedgerow and a touch of black plum. The palate is medium-bodied, well-balanced with ripe tannins. Very cohesive and harmonious with a great clarity and focus on the elegant finish. Very natural.   90-91/100

Ruby-red. Perfumed aromas of cassis, licorice and herbs; showing more fruit today than the Langoa. Then tight but pliant, with an enticing restrained sweetness and a light gamey nuance to the currant and black cherry fruit fla vors. Finishes persistent and floral, with dusty tannins that spread out to saturate the palate. Lovely claret.   90/100
