Pol's latest release is the 2008 Vintage Blanc de Blancs. The 2008 vintage is set to be the next 'big thing' in Champagne and is anticipated by enthusiasts very eagerly. This is still a baby though - and is ideally bought to lay down for a good few years. L&S (Jun 2015)

We've given our view on the best value sparkling and the best value Champagne at this tasting so it's only fair that we should add our opinion on the best Champagne, and here it is in all its adolescent vintage glory, the simply magnificent Blanc de Blancs all-Chardonnay from Pol, whose intense, fresh toasty aromas swirl to the top of the glass as they tempt into a voluptuously rich explosion of textured bubbles, releasing beguiling stonefruit flavours with an elegant vinosity and stylish finish. Yes, this is still in its infancy and may yet grow to greater heights with a few years ageing, if you can wait that long. Rating: 95 The Wine Gang - www.thewinegang.com (Nov 2016)

Pol Roger's 2008 Blanc de Blancs is a very pretty, expressive Champagne to drink now and over the next handful of years. White orchard fruit, sage, pastry and candied lemon peel open up nicely in the glass. This is an especially creamy, voluptuous 2008, although the acidity of the vintage comes through nicely on the back end. Drinking range: 2016 - 2023 Rating: 92 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Aug 2016)

My favourite Blanc de Blancs has to be the Pol Roger 2008, which manages to combine lacy delicacy with ripeness on the finish - never an easy balancing act to pull off.Harry Eyres (Aug 2015)

Champagne Pol Roger

Champagne Pol Roger is one of the very few remaining houses still owned and run by the founding family, who remain responsible for the winemaking and selection of the cuvées each year.
Originally founded in Aÿ in 1849 by Pol Roger, the firm then moved to Épernay in 1851. The First World War had a huge impact on the firm, putting any expansion plans to rest, and Prohibition in America made exports much more difficult.
During the Second World War when the Germans occupied France, all production and buying of Champagne was controlled by the Wehrmacht.
However, the War caused Winston Churchill to become a prominent figurehead throughout the world, and his love of Pol Roger was widely known. So much so that the House created their special Cuvée Winston Churchill in 1975.
