2008 BARBARESCO Fausoni Sottimano
2008 BARBARESCO Fausoni Sottimano
| Grapes: Nebbiolo | Origin: Italy, Piedmont |
Lea & Sandeman review
Complex, rich and tight, this is wonderful but will need a lot of time to show at its best.Other reviews and comments
Medium red with a hint of amber. Sexy, high-pitched aromas of sour cherry, herbs and white truffle. Dense but juicy, with terrific acidity giving this usually softer Barbaresco an atypically light touch. Not a fleshy style, but finishes brisk and long, with very good medicinal cut and a hint of licorice. Clearly more classic than the 2009.

The 2008 Barbaresco Fausoni opens with sweet roses and spices before it blossoms on the palate. This deceptively mid-weight Barbaresco is the most gracious of Sottimano’s 2008s, but don’t be fooled, there is plenty of fruit and structure in the glass. This is a gorgeous, classy wine from Sottimano. Sweet tobacco, cedar and herbs are some of the notes that wrap around the harmonious finish. This is a feminine, delicate Barbaresco from Sottimano. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023.

Compact and still tight nose with nice, lifted ripe red fruit, baking apples and spice. It has real energy - a vivid, serious wine with minerally, powdery tannins and a dry, chewy finish. Lovely extract and density. Drink: 2013-2019
