2008 BARBARESCO Pajore Sottimano

2008 BARBARESCO Pajore Sottimano

Grapes: Nebbiolo  Origin: Italy, Piedmont
Lea & Sandeman review
The most classical of the 'crus'; rich and powerful with tight tannins and minerality and incredible length. This is a real beauty that will develop over the next two decades.

Other reviews and comments
(6.5 grams per liter acidity): Bright, deep red. Precise, high-pitched nose and palate offer excellent spicy lift to the aromas of raspberry, sour cherry, minerals, mint and wild herbs. Dense and primary, with terrific energy and thrust accentuating the impression of purity and sharp definition. Wonderfully vibrant and true to its terroir. Builds spectacularly on the very long finish, making the tannins of the 2009 version seem almost dry. Leaves perfumed wild herbs and mint in the empty glass. This wine tends to be austere in its youth, but the high quality of this vintage is plain to see today.   94/100

Sweet ripe cherry, cranberry, herb and berry notes on the nose. Powerful and tannice with a great body and a lot of liquorice and red cherry fruit. Good acidity with tannins that need time to soften. Balanced and long. Drink: from 2014   17/20
Decanter Magazine
The 2008 Barbaresco Pajore, from one of the best vineyards in Treiso, is a harmonious, totally complete wine. It flows from the glass with menthol, spices, pine, dark cherries and licorice in a wonderfully expressive style that captures the essence of this site. It is one of the few 2008s that has fine definition in aromatics, fruit and structure. All of the elements meld together beautifully towards the sweeping finish. This is undeniably attractive. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2028.   93/100
