2008 CHÂTEAU HAUT BATAILLEY 5ème Cru Classé Pauillac

2008 CHÂTEAU HAUT BATAILLEY 5ème Cru Classé Pauillac

Grapes: Origin: France, Bordeaux
Lea & Sandeman review
Very pretty classic cassis Cabernet nose. Sweet fruit and purity - very supple, and not lacking in drive, and the fruit behind keeps its tantalising sweet gourmandise fruit. Very pretty and elegant.   91

This is ripe, wine gum nose of blackberry, a touch of cherry liqueur, a little cedar and roasted walnut. Good definition. Medium-bodied, ripe and rounded tannins, blackberry, a hint of liquorice, lovely texture although perhaps it could do with a little more backbone and tension towards the finish. A decent, earlier drinking Haut-Batailley. Fine, especially the silky, sensuous finish.   89-91/100

More similar to a St.-Julien than a Pauillac, the 2008 Haut-Batailley reveals delicious, sensual, black raspberry and black cherry fruit. It does not possess the density or power of other Pauillacs, but it is round, ripe, and seductive with medium body, nicely integrated wood, juicy tannins, and fresh acids. It should drink well for 12+ years.   88-90/100

Dense red, fragrant and concentrated blackcurrant nose, freshness, purity and charm on the palate, finely poised fruit, great clarity of expression. Drink 2014-20.   17****
