Lea & Sandeman review
55% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, from 25 year old vines, grown on the classic Gironde gravels over a clayey base. The vineyard is grassed-over to avoid the use of weedkillers. Grapes hand-sorted at the harvest, which is followed by a low-temperature maceration, then a long, controlled, fermentation, and 14 months of élevage in barrel with 30% new wood. This is classic modern Médoc, and the wine tastes as detailed and fresh as one would expect from this precision growing and vinfication. Silky tannins, fresh dark-cherry fruit with a subtle oak background.
