Aged fifteen months in oak, this is a richly textured Shiraz with spicy, sweet black fruit and chocolate flavours, concentrated and spicy on the long finish. A good step up from the lovely 2006 vintage and a star buy for both traditionalists and modernists alike. L&S (Feb 2012)

Lovely meaty wine with warm spicy notes, and some olive character. Lively, peppery aromatics, too. Nice meaty, peppery palate with berry fruits to the foreJamie Goode, www.wineanorak.com (Sept 2012)

Dombeya

The Dombeya range comes from a 23 hectare property in the Helderberg, the sought-after sub-region of Stellenbosch. The estate also makes the 'Haskell Vineyards' range, named after owner preston Haskell. Dombeya was the original name for the estate, taken from a wild pear tree which grows locally.

Founding winemaker Rianie Strydom, who developed the wines here, has now passed over the winemaking to Rudolph Steenkamp, who joined as winemaker and vineyard manager in June 2018. Rudolph has been four years as assistant winemaker at Groot Constantia, and has also worked in France.
