2008 FONTARCA Viognier Tenimenti Luigi d'Alessandro
2008 FONTARCA Viognier Tenimenti Luigi d'Alessandro
| Grapes: Viognier | Origin: Italy, Tuscany |
Lea & Sandeman review
This a new style 100% Viognier wine under the Fontarca label. Aromatic with some sweet fruit notes, quite tight on the attack but with a lovely finish.Other reviews and comments
The 2008 Fontarca is Viognier partially fermented in oak. Talk about a wine that has seen an abrupt change in style over the last few years! Delicate floral notes meld into minerals, white peaches and mint in a rich, textured style of notable elegance. There is a pure, crystalline
quality to the finish that is incredibly appealing. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2014.
D’Alessandro, one of the historic estates in Tuscany, continues to make important strides under the leadership of consultant Luca Currado.

On the whole I have been underwhelmed by the fashionable Viognier in Tuscany, which tends to the flabby and undistinguished. But this example from inland Cortona is really fresh, with incisive peach to apricot flavours and a complex palate, finishing surprisingly successfully with a salty note.

Tuscan Viognier may be a suprising showing for some, perhaps, nevetheless this has been crafted into a suprerbly delicate Viognier with a creaminess and freshness on the palate together with a luscious peachy flavours that are true to this variety’s character.
