Village Sauternes
Classification 1er Cru Classé

Deep yellow gold. Very full chewy texture, impression thick weight almost more than sweetness or acididty. Waxy, unctuous, very full. Very long. Impressive. Struggling to express itself before the finish, when it ends on long layers of confit fruit and oily richness. Rating: 94+ L&S (Apr 2010)

The 2009 Rieussec has long been a favourite of mine. It is a little deeper in colour than its peers. This is rich and powerful with clear honey, acacia, orange blossom and quince aromas, just a hint of crème caramel in the background. The palate is very well balanced with another superb line of acidity. Very pure and focused with captivating tension on the finish, the tongue tingling with Szechuan peppers on the aftertaste. Wonderful. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting. Drinking range: 2020 - 2060 Rating: 97 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Mar 2019)

The fruit is sweet and ripe the nose fleshy with a lovely depth of flavour. Apricots and fleshy yellow peach is further enriched by caramelized fruits yet under the lush richness there is a touch of citrus that refreshes and gives a slightly lighter feel on the back palate bringing out a hint of botrytis. 2020-50 Rating: 95 Derek Smedley MW, www.dereksmedleymw.co.uk

84.5% semillon, 11.5% sauvignon blanc and 4% muscadelle; 160 g/l residual sugar; 13.8% alcohol) Bright yellow-gold. An initial whiff of alcohol is quickly followed by subtle aromas of flowers, fresh citrus, ginger and vanilla. Racy and delineated, with excellent intensity to the pristine flavors of fresh pineapple, tangerine, lemon and spices. Comes across as quite sleek and precise thanks to laser-like acidity, which frames and lifts the wine's superb tight core of fruit. Not at all an unctuous style, this compellingly vibrant wine finishes very long and very smooth, with a hint of vanillin oak. This outstanding vintage of Rieussec should be forgotten in the cellar for at least 6 or 8 years and then enjoyed for at least another 30 years after that. Château Rieussec

Sauternes Premier Cru 1855 For several generations, Château Rieussec has been a leading name in Sauternes wines. As early as 1868, Charles Cocks remarked that “Beyond any of the others, Rieussec produces wines that are very similar to Yquem wines”. The modern history of Rieussec, and the beginning of a remarkable rennaissance, starts with the purchase of the estate by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) in 1984. A new winery was completed in 1989 and yields restricted to maximise quality. There are 92ha of vineyard, planted with 90% Semillon, 7% Sauvignon Blanc and 3% Muscadelle. Fermentation takes place in barrels from DBR's own cooperage. Aging is 18 to 26 months depending on the year, including 55% in new barrels.
