This is a real 'délice' on first taste, so sweetly attractive. And yet there is more here. This has more tension than in the last two vintages, with a mildly bitter tang, tautening the sweet fruit middle with a dry structured finish. It is a wine which year on year seems to be opulent and almost louche, and yet it has the highest dry extract of any of Anne's wines. L&S (Dec 2010)

Moderately saturated red. Rather sullen on the nose, hinting at redcurrant, earth, mint and burnt orange rind; lower-pitched than the two village wines here. Then creamy-sweet and supple in the mouth, with the redcurrant fruit complicated by some underlying minerality. Still, this broad, dry wine comes across as less sharply delineated than the Vosne villages. Rating: 92 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Mar 2012)

This has a lovely bouquet with raspberry, wild strawberry and superb underlying mineralité. Very expressive and feminine. The palate is finely balanced with silky tannins, wonderful poise and focus, with an understated, pepper-tinged sweet finish. Rating: 93 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2011)

A ripe, spicy and relatively elegant nose of fresh red currants, earth and spice hints is followed by rich, supple and very round medium-bodied flavors that possess a seductive texture on the delicious and long finish. This is good but it’s remarkably forward, indeed it’s almost a bit too soft. 2015+ Rating: 89-91 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2011)

Domaine Anne Gros

Anne Gros joined her father François at the family domaine in Vosne Romanée in 1988, having given up her arts studies in favour of viticulture and oenology at Beaune and Dijon, and has run the domaine alone since 1995. The Domaine now has 6.5 hectares of Pinot and Chardonnay. Anne describes herself as being 'wary of certainties and keen to preserve her freedom'.

In the vineyards Anne practises viticulture influenced by organic and biodynamic principles, and the vineyards are ploughed and fertilised with compost, but although she believes that the long-term health of the vineyards are best preserved by such methods, she likes to maintain the freedom to use conventional treatments when necessary.

In the cellar, the wines are classically made, in cement tanks for the reds, and stainless steel for the whites. They are then are aged in barrel for up to fifteen months, with 80% new wood for the grand crus, 50% for the village wines and 30% for the regional wines. Anne is quietly meticulous and almost obsessive about cleanliness in her cellar, which perhaps is reflected in the delicacy and restrained tension in her wines, which have aromatic clarity, limpid precision, sheer joie de vivre, lively balance and persistence.
