Similar style of fruit to the Sous la Velle, similar fresh texture, a little more oak, and also clearly a little more mineral and lifted. Stones, little round stones - lovely. Remi has had this since 1994, when he bought it with very young vines. It was in a bit of a state, so he put a pallet of fertiliser on it - and the whole parcel rotted. He acknowledges the error and says it took a few years to work through that. He has not used fertiliser on any of his vines since 2000. The class of the site (next to 1er cru Goutte d'Or) is now really coming through. L&S (Jan 2011)

The nose is packed with sweet fruit and this richness is there on the palate. Honeydew melon and greengage enrich the middle but there is enough freshness at the back to balance the sweetness. 2012-16 Rating: 92 Derek Smedley MW, www.dereksmedleymw.co.uk (Dec 2013)

The 2009 Meursault En Luraule, from a parcel that touches Gouttes d-Or, possesses gorgeous textural richness and depth. This is another superbly elegant, refined wine graced with exceptional class and harmony. Salt, crushed rocks and lemon frame the utterly exquisite, deep finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012+. Rating: 92 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Jan 2012)

(from .45 ha parcel of 15+ year old vines that abuts Goutte d’Or aged in 20% new oak). A citrus-infused nose also speaks of floral and hazelnut aromas that introduce slightly more precise and tighter flavors that possess good vibrancy on the balanced and solidly lingering finish. There is simply more here. 2013+ Rating: 88 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jun 2011)

Domaine Rémi Jobard

Rémi has been making small qualitative changes ever since he took over here in 1996. The entire vineyard is cordon-pruned, so yields are naturally limited. There has been no use of fertiliser since 1994, and the vineyard is grassed-over to encourage the vine roots to go deep. The domaine has been certified organic from 2008. He says that the two most important things are the absence of weedkiller (and thus the necessity to plough, which cuts any surface roots and makes the vine go deeper) and not adding any fertiliser which again makes the roots go deeper to find nutrients.

Rémi has two vast presses, to enable him to press very slowly over six hours, and this has resulted in a big jump in finesse. The élevage now lasts nearly fifteen months, so as to allow the wines to develop slowly and to avoid fining. As a result these are wines which take a moment to show, but which reward the patient with complexity and great depth of flavour.

Rémi made a move from traditional barrels to foudres made of a mix of French, Austrian and Slavonian oak, constructed by Austrian cooper Stockinger, and having added a new one (or two) each year, there's barely a normal barrel left. He likes the way the wines develop in these large volumes, in which the 'oaking' effect is minimised.
