Made of Garnatxa (Garnacha) and Samso (Cariñena) from 35 to 65 year old vineyards planted in the hills of Montsant, this is one of the most authentic wines we have found from Spain. With an intensely rich deep colour, and concentrated sweet aromatic fruit, this is a wonderfully expressive wine that reflects both the harshness of the region - the vines having to work hard for survival in the dry, stony soil - as well as the quality and singularity of the traditional winemaking.

Juicy strawberry and blackberry fruit overlaid with smoke, meat and tar. Bright and juicy cranberry, strawberry and blackberry on the palate with firm tannins and acidity. Long finish. Their white was brilliant, too.   90 points, good value.

The 2009 Acustic is composed of 55% Samso and 45% Garnacha aged for 10-11 months in seasoned French oak. It offers up a lightly roasted bouquet of spice box, earthy minerals, tobacco, and black cherry setting the stage for a sweetly-fruited, dense, layered wine that has 1-2 years of aging potential. It, too, is an outstanding value that will deliver prime drinking from 2012 to 2019.   91/100

Brilliant ruby-red. An expansive, fragrant bouquet evokes raspberry, candied cherry and flowers, with a spicy overlay. Juicy and pliant, offering sweet red fruit flavors and picking up smokiness with air. Clean and sweet on the finish, which shows no rough edges and clings with excellent tenacity. As usual, this is a great value.   91
