Classic, but without any of the soupy richness of so many of the 2009s. Smoky-rich, cedarwood , slightly spicy, voluptuously full, silky-fine tannins. Lovely balance of this fine-grained tannin and suppleness with the expressive dried herbs and ripe hedgerow fruit, all combining to give a finely dry feel. Drink over next five of six years, (but may well last ten).Other reviews and comments
Mid dark crimson. Attractively melded autumn, ripe fruit aromas. Rich yet well balanced – not top heavy – and the tannins are really very well handled. Attractive essence of Gigondas, for the first time (and this was my 38th sample of Gigondas 2009), fairly high alcohol. Well done!

(70% grenache and 30% syrah, planted at 300 meters altitude): Deep ruby. Highly perfumed aromas of raspberry preserves, Asian spices and cola, with slow-mounting spiciness. Broad and deep but fresh, with juicy red and dark berry flavors lifted by notes of lavender pastille and anise. Fine-grained tannins add shape and grip to the long, sappy, seamless finish.

The 2009 Gigondas (70% Grenache and 30% Syrah aged in both tank and 1- to 3-year-old barrels) exhibits a deep ruby/purple color along with lots of berry fruit intermixed with crushed rock and spring flower notes. Elegant yet solidly constructed with silky tannins and impressive purity as well as length, it should drink well for 7-8 years.

"Produced from a mere 18 Hl/ha after sorting. A nose which is quite 'straight', recalls the excellent 2004 of this cuvée. A touch of coal-tar and woodsmoky depth, enough tannin to firm up the dried herb and juicy berry fruit. All silky and well-managed, can be drunk from now."
