2009 MERCUREY 1er Cru Combins Domaine Theulot Juillot

2009 MERCUREY 1er Cru Combins Domaine Theulot Juillot

Grapes: Pinot Noir  Origin: France, Burgundy
Lea & Sandeman review
The biggest of the Theulot 1er Crus, in a voluminous, charming style. Rich, closed-in aroma, undergrowth wild hedgerow fruit, black fruit breadth, salty minerality gives it drive and makes it succulently delicious. It is on a south-facing slope with a deep marne (calcium-rich clay) soil which Nathalie says always gives a dense wine with lots of depth.

Other reviews and comments
Considering what voluptuous Pinot Noirs the 2009 vintage produced this is quite muscular and mineral, but it is Mercurey after all, so you're not looking for Burgundy at its most delicate. It has plenty of stuffing, dark fruit, savoury mineral flavours and quite chewy tannins, but it'll come round. Give it another year.   88

I would pick...for its perfume and elegance, the combination of lightness in the mouth and depth of fruit, and its length. Great quality and value from a less exalted area.

The WINE GANG Pinot Noir case

A selection of fabulous drinking Pinot Noirs as selected by the Wine Gang in their March report. "The Pinot Noirs, all young vintages, were from Burgundy, New Zealand and Argentina and the standard was high. We like the way Lea & Sandeman chooses producers and wines that express their vineyards and regions so clearly," they said, and we couldn't agree more! Taste your way through the selection and see what they mean...

"One might expect this to be lumpy and rich in this vintage, but in fact it is more like Laurent's village Volnay than his old vines Chassagne. Light on its feet and with good energy in the fruit, but it needs a year or two to give its best as it is denser than the Volnay, and may keep surprisingly well."
