Expressive floral & spice abundance 10 ample vibrant black fruit intensity & concentration. Rating: 4½ stars Platter's South African Wine Guide (Nov 2013)

Rich dense garnet colour with lighter purple edges. The nose has lifted elements of red cherries, cinnamon, black pepper and sexy violets to round off. The palate has a firm tannin structure with good dimension of fruit and wood balance.
Variety:95% Stellenbosch Syrah + 5% Stellenbosch Moervedre
Harvest Data Vintage detail:What an intense year! It was extremely difficult to make predictions due to the constant fluctuations in weather conditions, with unrelenting winds prevailing almost throughout. Initially matters were quite advanced, with early bud burst, then cold weather in October and November delayed everything, and subsequently favourable conditions and the small size of the crop tended to move D-day forward again. Production cost was high from the start and expenses per ton skyrocketed because of the decline in yield.

Haskell Vineyards

The Haskell Vineyards estate is in the Helderberg, the revered Stellenbosch sub-region which contains many of South Africa's greatest wine names, the 23 hectares of vineyards neighbouring Rust en Vrede, Stellenzicht and Bilton.

The estate was originally names Dombeya after a wild native pear tree that gows in the area, and this is the name used for the 'Dombeya' range, which is designed to represent great value at its price point and to offer an insight into the capacity of the estate to make stylish wines of individuality.

The founding winemaker, Rianie Strydom, has now handed over the baton to Rudolph Steenkamp, who joined the estate as assistant winemaker and vineyard manager in June 2018. Rudolph has worked for four vintages at Groot Constantia, as well as in France.

Awarded an elite five star rating in the upcoming 2010 John Platter Guide, Haskell also made history by becoming the first South African winery to win Best Red Wine and Best Wine in Show at the prestigious 2009 Tri-Nations Challenge, a yearly competition between the finest wines of Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
