Only four barrels made of this premium Pinot Noir from Two Rivers, two of which are new, and two one year old. Well knit for a Kiwi Pinot with a lovely strain of ripe and mineral fruit through the mid palate, this looks like it will develop in bottle and open up to become something really quite good. This is fabulous. The bouquet is rich and complex with perfumed aromas of red/black cherry, game, spice and cedar. It's concentrated and expansive on the palate with velvety texture and excellent mid palate weight, leading to an extremely long finish, backed by plenty of supple tannins. Grapes were sourced from their high altitude vineyard in the Awatere Valley. At its best: now to 2017. Limited availability. 13.5% Screw cap. May 2012. Two Rivers of Marlborough
David Clouston is originally from Marlborough, and after 22 vintages abroad from Oregon to Chile, Corsica to Alsace, he returned home and set about exploring the valleys and diverse terroirs of Marlborough. The main production is the Sauvignon made from fruit from both the Awatere and Wairau river valleys, whence the 'Two Rivers of Marlborough' name, but his hillside Pinot Noir is showing great potential.
