2010 ARUMA Bodegas Caro
| Grapes: Malbec | Origin: Argentina, Mendoza |
Lea & Sandeman review
Pure Malbec from Mendoza. Ruby to purple, deep bright colour. Pure bright cherry fruit on a nose which conveys a soft fullness as well. The fleshy softness is the main impression in the mouth, at least to begin with, but the fruit has added spice and crunch. Fine-grained tannins extend the finish with this cherry-skin feel. Quite chunky but the brightness makes it really interesting and drinkable. Will certainly keep out some of the February chill.Other reviews and comments

MALBEC
Everyone's favourite grape variety, these days, seems to be Malbec. It's easy to see why, especially as the Argentinians have crafted a bright bold and flavoursome style out of the grape variety that Bordeaux forgot. In this case you will find a very typical Mendoza Malbec, a chunky Malbec Cabernet blend from master wine maker Nicolas Catena aswell as his more subtle take on pure Malbec. Whilst Bordeaux may have (mostly) cast off Malbec, it still hangs on in the Cahors region of South West France where Pascal Verhaeghe makes some cracking examples, here also included.

"Tasted May 2011. Pure with a good dry note on the end – very good integrity – not too sweet. Just very pure and well made. Well done – very appetising! Underpriced? VGV. When to drink : 2011 to 2014."

"What used to be called 'Prestige', this is the Chateau's own production. 90% Malbec and 10% Tannat aged in a combination of first, second and third year oak. Sensational wine this, full bodied, richly tannic, but in a very attractive and drinkable fashion, and immensely satisfying. Very real in every way."
