The very best Sardinian reds are undoubtedly made from old Carignano vines. Barrua 2010 - 85% Carignano, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot - has a wild, brooding nose and deep, dark flavour; it's a veritable Heathcliff of a wine. (Country Life Magazine). Harry Eyres (Feb 2015)

(a blend of 85% carignano, 10% cabernet sauvignon and 5% merlot): Good full red-ruby. Ripe, smoky red cherry, field herbs, dry spices and a touch of chocolatey reduction on the brooding, complex nose. Serious, structured and quite suave; weighty and powerful, with flavors of medicinal red cherry, thyme, sweet pipe tobacco and minerals. The very long finish displays enticing sweetness. This rich yet taut and linear wine is enjoyable today but will be at its best with another six or seven years of bottle aging. Aged for 18 months in small French oak (30% new). Agricola Punica

Agricola Punica is a joint venture, started in 2002, between Sebastiano Rosa, of the San Guido estate, and the Santadi winery. Oenologist Giacomo Tachis, Antonello Pilloni (president of Santadi) and the Marquis Nicolo Incisa della Rochetta (San Guido - Sassicaia) are also shareholders.

The vineyards are in the southwestern part of Sardinia, the region know as 'Isola dei Nuraghi', planted with Carignano, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah, as well as some Sardinian varieties.
