From a highly-rated vintage in Bordeaux, this Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated wine was aged for 12 months in barrels, 30% of which were new. Compared to some 2006s at this tasting this was more forward, youthful and vibrant with an appealing directness to the woodsmoke-tinged, ripe black fruits. The palate has medium weight and lots of juicy freshness to both fruit and acidity. This is really good, balanced and savoury Bordeaux that's drinking well now but will cellar for 8 – 10 years. Rating: 90 The Wine Gang - www.thewinegang.com (Sept 2013)

Dark red. Inviting aromas of redcurrant, coffee, brown spices and truffley underbrush. Supple, sweet and on the soft side, offering dark berry and light herbal flavors of moderate intensity. This midweight finishes with dusty tannins and decent persistence. Rating: 87 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Jul 2013)

The Sénéjac has a superb bouquet with vigorous blackberry, wild strawberry and tobacco-tinged aromas that soar from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy, dry tannins. There is plenty of substance here with a dash of black pepper and cedar on the finish. Very St. Estephe like: this is an excellent cru bourgeois. Drink now-2018. Rating: 91 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Oct 2012)

Château Sénéjac

So far south in the Haut-Médoc that it exists in splendid isolation, without vineyard neighbours, in the tiny settlement of Le Pian Médoc, is Château Sénéjac. The usual Bordelais long complicated history is crowned by the purchase of Sénéjac in 1999 by Lorraine Cordier, owner of Château Talbot. Since Lorraine’s death, Sénéjac has been managed by her sister Nancy Bignon Cordier with operations overseen by Alfred Tesseron and his team from Château Pontet Canet. There are 39ha of vineyard, in a single block, planted with 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, with an average age of 35 years. The wines of Château Sénéjac offer splendid value and relatively early appeal.
