CACC'E MMITTE DI LUCERA

2011 Rosso DOC Alberto Longo

Colour Red
Origin Italy, Puglia
Classification DOC
ABV 13%

Cacc'e Mmitte (Catcher-muh-mit) di Lucera is one of Italy's smallest DOCs, and Alberto Longo is one of only three producers to make wine within the DOC. A blend of Nero di Troia, Montepulciano, and Bombino Bianco (one of our customers thought this sounded like a porn star and bought a case straight away!), all fermented and aged in steel. Intensely fruity on the nose, this has lovely soft ripe juice with good acidity and great length too for such an easy drinking wine. L&S (Jul 2013)

The 2011 Cacc'e Mmitte di Lucera is a blend of 50% Nero di Troia, 35% Montepulciano and 15% Bombino Bianco. Alberto Longo is one of the most prolific and articulate narrators of this little-known DOC appellation in the Dauno Apennines, just south of the Gargano peninsula (the "spur" on the "boot" of Italy). Thanks to the warm vintage, this edition shows a bold, ripe style with dark berry jam and deep layers of fruit. The wine exhibits a dark purple color with little light penetration. It is highly drinkable and generous in a very frank, confident and upfront manner. Fresh acidity does a good job of countering the ripeness of the fruit. Drinking range: 2015 - 2019 Rating: 91 Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate (www.robertparker.com) (May 2015)

(a blend of 55% uva di Troia, 30% montepulciano and 15% bombino bianco): Medium red. Deeply pitched aromas of ripe wild red berries, cherry, herbs and smoked meat. Fat for a Cacc'e Mmitte, finishing bright, minerally and long. Rating: 89 Ian d'Agata - Stephen Tanzer website (Apr 2014)

Alberto Longo

Founded by Alberto Longo, a consultant for KPMG, this thirty five hectare estate is in Lucera, Apulia, and only released their first wines onto the market in 2005. Concentrating mainly on the indigenous varietals, Nero di Troia, Negromarao and Montepulciano, the wines have rapidly gained recognition as being the best of the region. The wines are made by oenologist Graziana Grassini, a pupil of Giaccomo Tachis, and well known to us for her tremendous efforts at Fattoria di Magliano in Tuscany. Her signature of expressive fruit, allowing the 'terroir' to show through, is evident in all of these wines, and while they have the ripeness of wines from the south, they are all marked by crisp and fresh acidity.

You can visit Cantine Alberto Longo's website here for more detailed information on his vineyards, wines and wine-making process.
