Ruby-red, a bit less saturated than the Clos de Beze. A wild, meaty essence of Gevrey on the nose, offering scents of smoky dark berries, mulch and game bird. Silky on entry, then supersuave and seamless in the middle, showing cooler soil notes of licorice, pepper and stony minerality. Powerful, dense and sappy; ultimately quite closed but very light on its feet, with the peppery character carrying through the wine. Finishes very long and tannic, with superb grip. A real vin de garde. Perrot-Minot notes that these vines are between 60 and 65 years of age, vs. about 50 for the Clos de Beze. Rating: 93-95 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Feb 2013)

Vinified with 50% whole clusters. Here the nose is quite different from that of the Bèze as this is much more floral with notes of lavender, dried rose petal and cool red currant. There is superb detail to the almost painfully intense and pungently mineral-driven large-scaled flavors that possess a saline character on the refreshing yet quite serious finish that seems to go on and on. This isn't quite as complex as its stable mate though Chambertin is rarely as showy as a typical Clos de Bèze in its youth. For now I'll give the nod to the Bèze but that may not be the case when both of these are finally ready to go. Drinking range: 2026 - Rating: 93-96 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2013)
Domaine Christophe Perrot-Minot
Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” This is one of the star domaines of the whole of Burgundy.
