Needs coaxing on the nose, but all there on the palate. A complete richness which transmits as velvet, with flashes of jewel-like clarity of fruit. Suave and sophisticated black fruit, fine, firm, ripe tannins, Plums on the finish, with a little bitterness of plum skin. Long and pure. L&S (Jan 2013)

Evident notes of herbal tea stop short of being herbaceous on the red currant, cherry and spicy nuanced nose that is trimmed in discreet oak influence. The sleek and appealingly textured middle weight flavors possess both good minerality and a taut muscularity that helps to shape the lingering if ever-so-mildly drying finale. I like the texture and the spiciness but the balance isn't quite as well dialed in as it could be. Note that while this will still need 2 to 4 years to arrive at its peak, it's sufficiently close that it could easily be enjoyed now. Drinking range: 2021 - Rating: 89 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Apr 2019)

Good bright red-ruby. Sexy aromas and flavors of black fruits, rose petal and spicy oak lifted by a peppery topnote. Densely packed, saline and firmly built, offering ethereal inner-mouth perfume and outstanding verve. Really spreads out and vibrates on the very long, chewy finish. Like the rest of this estate's 2011s, this is not a fat wine but offers superb energy and structure. Rating: 92-95 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Feb 2013)

(from a .6 ha parcel and 70% new oak). This is perfectly ripe with a pure nose of essence of wild red berry fruit that is liberally laced with earth, Asian spice and wet stone nuances. There is excellent volume to the solidly structured middle weight flavors that possess good maturity of the structural elements that shape the dusty, firm and persistent finish where a touch of wood can be discerned. Like the Echézeaux, this is on the lighter side for a Richebourg but this is not to say lacking in concentration but rather lightly extracted. 2019+ Rating: 91-94 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2013)

Domaine Anne Gros

Anne Gros joined her father François at the family domaine in Vosne Romanée in 1988, having given up her arts studies in favour of viticulture and oenology at Beaune and Dijon, and has run the domaine alone since 1995. The Domaine now has 6.5 hectares of Pinot and Chardonnay. Anne describes herself as being 'wary of certainties and keen to preserve her freedom'.

In the vineyards Anne practises viticulture influenced by organic and biodynamic principles, and the vineyards are ploughed and fertilised with compost, but although she believes that the long-term health of the vineyards are best preserved by such methods, she likes to maintain the freedom to use conventional treatments when necessary.

In the cellar, the wines are classically made, in cement tanks for the reds, and stainless steel for the whites. They are then are aged in barrel for up to fifteen months, with 80% new wood for the grand crus, 50% for the village wines and 30% for the regional wines. Anne is quietly meticulous and almost obsessive about cleanliness in her cellar, which perhaps is reflected in the delicacy and restrained tension in her wines, which have aromatic clarity, limpid precision, sheer joie de vivre, lively balance and persistence.
